While watching one of my favorite movies, I was trying to figure out if it was one of my favorite movies because of its unbelievable storyline, amazing characters or the home’s decor! If you don’t already know the movie, the woman of the household, Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) is a strong-minded interior designer and the wife of wealthy businessman Sean Tuohy (Tim McGraw). Well, I thought the house in the movie was warm and inviting and just perfect for this feel good flick. I decided to do a little more research on the home and found awesome pictures of the original home (in Georgia) when it was for sale. Let’s make some comparisons!
Well, after much research…this is not the exterior of the home where the actual movie was filmed.
Now for the inside! I just love this 🙂
Let’s start with the Entry Foyer.
The real home. It is so light and bright! It is just as welcoming.
Ok, so in the movie the Dining Room had that beautiful fireplace and seemed so spacious.
Well, the homeowners really use that room as the Living Room. The actual home is decorated much more clean (not fussy).
The Living Room in the movie…
It has heavy drapery, sheers, french bergere chairs, just a heavier feel. Well,
Look at how a mirrored “window” is placed on the other side of the fireplace to give a symmetrical and balanced feel to the room. I just love when architectural details like this are done!
There weren’t many good photos of the Kitchen from the movie that I could find. The amazing Kathy Bates.
Now for the real Kitchen…ummmm~i’ll take it!
Another beautiful shot of the Kitchen.
Speaking of Family Room, here is a shot of the family room from the Movie. It is dark and crowded. It has multiple TV’s as they were a big sport’s family. The large sectional allows for many people to have viewing pleasure but is too big for the room and closes off the Kitchen.
Wait until you see this transformation. It really is hard to believe it is the same room. The absence of the sectional and window treatments makes this room seem so much larger!
After doing this research, I can’t help but think, “why did I love the movie home so much?” Comparing the pictures, the movie home, while lovely, is so dark.
Look at the real Master Bedroom.
Here are some other lovely pictures of the real home that I just thought you would like to see. The nice thing about having a walk-out basement is that you can use it for living space and it doesn’t feel like your underground. You get lots of natural light and can add serious square footage to the home.
That picture does not look like a “basement” sitting area. This is the area outside of the basement. Again, does not feel like a basement.
What basement would be complete without a media room? This one is just right (and conveniently showing The Blind Side movie on the screen).
I am so curious to know your opinion. After seeing these pictures, which do you like…the real thing or the movie set? I think both are really beautiful and so well done. This was such a fun post to do. I hope you enjoy it also!
As always, thanks for reading.
Stay well 🙂
